Posted: 22nd February 2012Working with Norwich Homeless Services
As a Norwich based business, we are passionate about local issues and getting to know local people. So we were delighted when we were recently commissioned to design an information leaflet for Norwich Homeless Services. They wanted our help in making local homeless people aware of the support that is available in Norwich and where to find it. We designed an A4 leaflet which folds to a compact 100 x 150mm. This compact size is so it is the ideal size for the police to carry with them in their vest pocket whilst on the beat. An A4 map folds out to a list of the 18 key organisation... [read more]
Posted: 14th February 2012AFA Fostering marketing strategy day
We recently held a marketing away day for our brilliant clients AFA Fostering. Since they opened their doors in 2009, AFA have seen impressive regional and national growth. They felt they needed to spend some time reviewing their brand progress and adapting their strategy to reflect changes in their organisation. As an SME ourselves, we recognise how difficult it can be to make time to develop an accurate picture of your business, and over the years we've found it massively helpful to formalise certain aspects of our thinking and make sure that:a) appropriate time is alloca... [read more]

I was really excited to receive my membership pack through the post for Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust. This was particularly significant as it is the first thing I have received that I helped to produce. It did feel a bit strange seeing it finally come to life on my doorstep after weeks of working on all the elements with the Comms team at NCH&C. The first ... [read more]
Posted: 17th October 2011Starting my course...
As a newcomer to the creative industry and always keen to learn more, have recently started studying for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Professional Certificate in Marketing. This part time evening course aims to provide a practical insight into the day-to-day applications of marketing. I am enjoying engaging with and listening to the other students, hearing about their experiences and the function that marketing plays within their organisations. The mix of people can make for some interesting discussions due to the variety of different sectors represented.A few week... [read more]
Posted: 10th October 2011Events with NCH&C
Creating event materials is very rewarding - especially seeing all the different elements coming together in the days leading up to the event. Helping our clients meet the challenge of having everything ready at the right time and in the right place - when there is no flexibility on deadline - is really satisfying for the whole team. Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C), alongside NHS Norfolk, recently held a 'Healthier Fair' at the Castle Mall in Norwich. Their AGM was also held on the same day at the Foru... [read more]
When our client Timereel Studios came to us with ideas for an Archive Film DVD sampler going out to a select mailing list of retail buyers, we knew we needed to do something special. The films themselves are brilliant of course - check out their youtube channel for some previews - but we wanted to turn the arrival of the sampler into an event, to make sure that it arrived on the right persons desk and was noticed. Th... [read more]
Posted: 6th May 2011Tea and cake
Yesterday we delivered an afternoon branding workshop for a new client. Our lovely landladies (and lords) at Drayton Old Lodge laid on a fantastic tea at the break. Yes those are cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off, and yes those are radish flowers. Yum! The workshop went well, looking forward to getting started on the brand development.... [read more]
Over the past 12 weeks I have completed an internship scheme at Woolf Designs. From my first day everyone has been very welcoming and supportive, and I have enjoyed experiencing the everyday workings of a small business first hand. What initially attracted me to Woolf Designs was the focus on customer service, this has been reflected throughout and made for an fun and friendly working environment. The fast moving nature and buzz in the office means there is never a dull day, and from day one I have been involved in a range of different tasks, including qu... [read more]

pic: David Kirkham Great excitement at Woolf Designs when this lampshade arrived. We recently attended the BGP Showcase (read about it on the news page here) Our exhibition stand concept (props to Lucy and Alice - pictured) was to take a little piece of the office to the exhibition. Without a pull up banner, we needed something big with our l... [read more]

For the past few months I have been fortunate to be involved in the Business Growth Programme, which has provided me with an excellent framework for thinking about strategic development - as well as the tools to really make it happen. The Business Growth Programme aims to provide support for ten small and micro businesses in Norfolk, identified as having growth potential and g... [read more]

Posted: 3rd March 2011Getting the most out of PDFs
PDFs have been around since 1993 and have a variety of uses – from Acts of Parliament, to flyers to email out for an event. As print designers its great for us to be able to supply clients with a PDF of their leaflet, prospectus, magazine or brochure. But wait! Just before we click the ‘Export as PDF’ button, stop and think about it. How often do you see PDF brochures still bearing designer’s marks and bleeds? Why are the images that you paid hundreds of poun... [read more]
Posted: 17th February 2011How to save money on print - updated
As typically the most expensive part of a project, print costs can punch a serious hole in your marketing budget. Here are a few suggestions to making your jobs as print efficient was possible!1. Using the right kind of printer - Litho vs DigitalDepending on the number of pages, and the number of copies you want, you might be better printing with a Lithographic printer (larger runs) or a digital printer (smaller print runs). Set up costs are lower in digital printing, so if you're only looking for a couple of hundred copies of your brochure or poster, you ... [read more]

Had the pleasure of accompanying our client Anglia Fostering Agency to the first game of the season at Carrow Road for Norwich against Watford. A tour of the ground was followed by Dinner at Delia's and then the match, which Norwich lost 3-2. Still as a partisan, it was great to see 5 goals. ... [read more]
Posted: 12th August 2010Welcome to the Woolf Designs blog!
This, the first blog entry on our new website is a statement of intent. So why blog? 1. To inform - We're often asked to explain things by our clients, and we pride ourselves on explaining complicated technical design things in a way that anyone can understand. Over the coming months, as we're asked to explain something, I'll be posting it here as a reference. What's the difference between a vector and a raster image? How do I know if my images are print quality? These questions and many more will be answered! 2. To inspire - We'll als... [read more]
